Back Up Windows 10 Data to Google Drive File Stream

This article will explain the process to back up the data from your Windows 10 computer, to Google Drive File Stream.  Please note the bold titles for the sections as they will guide you to the proper section if you have already installed File Stream or not.

WHERE TO START:

 

Set up Drive File Stream **(First time)**

  1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left of your screen

  2. Scroll to the "D" section

  3. Click on Drive File Stream to open it

  4. If you haven't logged into it before, you will be prompted to login with your district email.  Enter that and click Next.

  5. Enter your password and click Next

  6. Wait for a minute and a blue window will pop up telling you about Drive File Stream

  7. Click the right-arrow until you see the Open Google Drive Folder button

  8. Double click on My Drive

  9. Click on the Home tab at the top

  10. Click on New Folder
    New_Folder.png

  11. Name the folder and press Enter

  12. Double click on this new folder to ope it.  It will be empty.

  13. Do not close this window

Open Drive File Stream **(Already set up)**

  1. Open File Explorer

  2. You should see Google Drive File Stream in your Frequent folders or your Quick Access folder.

  3. Double click to open it from either location

  4. Double click My Drive

  5. Click on the Home tab at the top

  6. Click on New Folder
    New_Folder.png

  7. Name the folder and press enter

  8. Double click on this new folder to open it.  It will be empty.

  9. Do not close this window

Back Up Data:

  1. Right click on the File Explorer icon and select File Explorer to open a second window

  2. Click on This PC on the left side of the window

  3. Double click on the Windows (C:) drive

  4. Double click the Users folder

  5. Find your user folder

  6. Double click your user folder to open it

  7. You will have these folders inside
    Folders_Containing_Data.png

  8. Drag the following folders to your backup folder you created in the other window.  Depending on how much data you have in your user folder, this may take a while.

    • Desktop
    • Documents
    • Downloads
    • Favorites
    • Music - If you have any
    • Pictures - If you have any
    • Videos - If you have any

  9. You backup is complete
