Backing up and Restoring Bookmarks

Export Bookmarks

Mac Instructions

    Firefox

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Go to “Bookmarks” menu > “Show All Bookmarks”
  3. Click the “Star” icon (not the gear icon) on the right side of the top-left toolbar buttons.   
  4. Select “Backup”   
  5. Save it to your personal network folder, or to your Desktop then copy it to your network folder.

 

    Safari

  1. Open Safari
  2. Go to “File” menu > “Export Bookmarks”
  3. Save it to your personal network folder, or to your Desktop then copy it to your network folder.

 

    Chrome

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Go to “Bookmarks” menu > “Bookmark Manager”
  3. Near the top left, look for text that says “Organize”, then click on it.
  4. Click on “Export Bookmarks to HTML File”.
  5. Save it to your personal network folder, or to your Desktop then copy it to your network folder.

 

PC Instructions

        Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click Bookmarks.  (If you don’t see this, hit the ALT button your keyboard.)
    1. You may need to click the Firefox button in the upper left corner to see the Bookmarks menu.
  3. Click Import and Backup.
  4. Click Backup…
  5. Navigate to your P Drive.
  6. Name the file.
  7. Click Save.

       

Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Favorites icon in the upper left (or right) corner.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow next to “Add to Favorites”.
  4. Click Import and export.
  5. Click Export from a file. Click Next.
  6. Check Favorites. Click Next.
  7. Select Favorites. Click Next.
  8. Click Browse. Navigate to your P drive.
  9. Name the file.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Click Export.
  12. Click Finish.

 

    Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the menu icon in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Bookmarks.
  4. Click Bookmark manager.
  5. Click Organize.
  6. Click Export bookmarks to HTML file…
  7. Navigate to your P drive.
  8. Name the file.
  9. Click Save.

 

Import Bookmarks

Firefox

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Go to “Bookmarks” menu > “Show all Bookmarks” (PC: If you don’t see this, hit the ALT button your keyboard.)
  3. Click the “Star” icon (not the gear icon) on the right side of the top-left toolbar buttons.
  4. Select “Restore” > “Choose File”
  5. Select the previously exported file and click “Open”.

 

Safari

  1. Open Safari
  2. Go to “File” menu > “Import Bookmarks”
  3. Select the previously exported file and click “Import”.

 

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Go to “Bookmarks” menu > “Bookmark Manager”
  3. Near the top left, look for text that says “Organize”, then click on it.
  4. Click on “Import Bookmarks from HTML File”.
  5. Select the previously exported file and click “Open”.

 

Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Hit the “Alt” button on your keyboard, and the menu bar will appear.
  3. Go to “File” menu, > “Import and export...”
  4. Select “Import from a file” and click “Next >”
  5. Select “Favorites” and click “Next >”
  6. Click the “Browse...” button and select the list of bookmarks you backed up earlier and click “Next >”
  7. Select “Favorites” as your destination folder and click “Import”
  8. Once all favorites are imported, click “Finish”
